Welcome to the Dojo. I am so glad you are here. Below are the 19 videos for you to personally join me in training. Set small goals. Be consistent. It can be helpful to choose the days and time you will commit to training. Work through each video, taking your time. Don’t try and go through all videos at once. Start with one, or a couple, and then move on as you feel you are getting it down. Keep practicing, every drill. Once you feel confident you have all these basic techniques down, to your best ability, you may prepare to submit your test examination. You will need to record about 6 videos (see below which drills you will need to submit) showing what you have learned. You can choose between two ways of sending them. Youtube works best, currently. Just do a simple search on how to set up a Youtube account. It’s free and easy. This is the recommended way to submit them. However, if you need, you may use another program/website called https://www.send-anywhere.com . Please email me if you have any questions at all on how to go about doing this.
Here are the following videos you will need to submit for your 10 Kyu Examination:
1). First Video Should Include: Straight Punch. Reverse Punch. Back Fist. Each 3x slow, 3 x fast
2). Second Video: Downward Back Fist. Knife Hand. Ridge Hand. Each 3x slow, 3x fast.
3). Third Video: Outside Block. Inside Block. Each 3x slow, 3x fast.
4). Fourth Video: Rising Block. Downward Block. Each 3x slow, 3x fast.
5). Fifth Video: Front Kick. Round Kick. Side Kick. Each 3x slow, 3x fast.
6). Sixth Video: Kata Straight Punch AND Kata Downward Block. Each one, 2x forward and 2x backward slow, and then also fast.
When you are ready to upload to youtube, you can easily search for a “how to upload videos to youtube account”. Once in there, make sure and make the videos “unlisted” so that no one else can see it on youtube, except the people you send the link to. Then email the videos to Isaac@throwingdownwithisaac.com
Once I have examined everything, I will give feedback, corrections, instructions, encouragement. Once you have passed the test, I will send you a signed certificate of achievement for that rank. Then you will be ready to move on to training for next rank. If you would like to purchase a Gi (a martial arts uniform) or a belt for each rank you achieve, I can provide a company for you to order those from.
And don’t forget to subscribe on my home page, to receive emails when I write a new article. I write articles regarding martial arts, food, (after all this is Throwing Down with Isaac -) and much, much more.

WARMS UPS & STRETCHES – Very important to warm up before you start training. It will help prevent injury. Warm up and stretches should be done carefully. Always best to start out gently and slowly. After time you can add a little more. Stretches should be done very slowly and don’t push too hard. Just stretch until you can feel it a bit. Then next time, you can stretch just a tiny bit more, as long as it does not feel painful. You can always lean against an object, a wall for example, for the standing stretches-like the pulling of the leg back-if you feel your balance is being challenged and to stay safe.
KARATE BOW – the purpose of the bow, is to show respect. Consider it like a handshake, a greeting, and agreement. It’s showing mutual respect. The Sensei bows to show he is committed to teaching the student well. The student bows to show he/she is willing to learn from the teacher, and do their best.

Straight Punch

STRAIGHT PUNCH – When you practice the straight punch nothing moves except the arm when you go out and punch.
KIAI – That shout I make is called the KIAI. (KEE-EYE) is how it is pronounced it. The purpose of the KIAI is to show confidence. It can scare the attacker. It can help you to push out air, so to not hold in breath, and push out energy confidently, and courageously.

For front kick and side kick your toes need to be pulled back when you kick out so you can protect them from getting hurt or broken.

ROUND KICK – You are using the area between the lower part of the foot and ankle to connect with that attacker

For the KATA’s make sure you are doing the KIAI’s in the same pattern as I show. At second strike going forward, and the second strike going backward.
