A bo staff is a weapon that was originally used very early in Okinawa Japan. In 1477 the emperor of Japan made it illegal for people to use swords, so people came up with their own weapons to use for self defense. Later the people of Japan needed to defend themselves against the violent clans in power. So the farmers decided to use equipment as weapons. It is said that the watering buckets they carried on a long stick across their shoulders was turned into a bo staff. The original staff was heavy, and made from wood and iron. Later the wooden bo staff was created.
I really enjoy practicing weapons. It is a lot of fun. I have created two different bo katas, one basic and the other more advanced. I also practice nunchakus which is a different kind of weapon.
The majority of karate is using weapons like our elbows, knees, hands, and feet. In sparring, gear is worn during training to protect, while using blocks, and also attacking with kicks and strikes and many more tactics.
A Christian deals with spiritual battles every day. A spiritual weapon is the bible, it helps you through your whole life with struggles, worries, temptations, and everything you need.
"The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds." 2 Cor. 10:4
Here are some Spiritiual weapons for a Christian to use:
- The Word of God - The Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Eph. 6:17
- Prayer - Praying always in the Spirit. Eph. 6:18
- Worship - "he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever." 2 Chron. 20:21
- Thanksgiving- Phil. 4:6-7
- Submitting to the Commander of the Army - God - "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" James 4:7
We are told to put on the armor of God and use it. It protects from spiritual forces of darkness, and attacks with truth. (Ephesians 6:10-18
The breastplate of righteousness
The shoes of peace
The shield of faith
The helmet of salvation
The sword of the spirit
The waist belt of truth
